Play with fire at the Wok’s Den

Wok’s Den is a nice restaurant located in Jumeirah 1 near La Mer with free parking and some really cool dragon graffiti on the walls inside. The kitchen has giant glass windows so you can watch the chefs in action while your food is being prepared.

The service is top notch! Our server made sure we were comfortable and helped us decide different dishes from the menu. Since we were fasting, the staff made sure that all our food was ready a minute before sunset so that we won’t have to wait and that made me feel super happy.

So we ordered Dragon shrimps and stir fried momos with schezuwan sauce for appetizers. The dragon shrimps were absolutely lip smacking, super creamy and soft to chew. The momos were an instant hit because the filling was so flavorsome and generous and the final toss in schezuwan sauce was ethereal.

For drinks, I ordered a pistachio shake and their specialty drink called Dragon’s Fuel which is suoer fun cocktail that has an intense kick of spice to it. Its literally like the sweet tangy and spicy gummy bears. I would recommend you go for it but have it in small sips instead of gulping it all in one go. Whereas the pistachio shake was great too!

For the wok, I chose soba noodles, mushrooms, snow peas, bok choy, sweet corn, black pepper sauce with chicken stripes. Loved the flavors in there and it wasn’t loaded with salt and chilli. The combination of flavors was just perfect. Wanna see how the wok was made? go check my Instagram page 😉

Then we had the triple schezuwan fried rice which were subtle and flavorful. They also have a black bean chilli sauce on the table that you can add to your food as you like. It was actually amazing and not too hot.

For Dessert, their coconut fried icecream was so delicious. I know it sounds so simple but please try it. Thank you Team Wok’s Den for the wonderful iftaar. Can’t wait to drop by soon 🙂

A lot more than just Hot dogs

If you keep up with my blog, you’ll remember the delicious hot dog spread I shared few days back. I visited the same place but a different location this time to check out their burgers and desserts.

First of all, the one in Kite beach was just a food truck whereas this one is a full fledged restaurant with a proper seating area including outdoor seating as well with quirky interiors. And an open kitchen to watch all the live action. The staff is amazing and friendly, but the service needs improvement.

I ordered the burger box but because they use a different menu in the restaurant as compared to the one on zomato. The staff was confused and they served me a hot dog box, I returned that one and requested for a single burger so I may taste it. As I have already reviewed the hot dogs.

The burger was delicious, it had double beef patty with grilled cheese, lettuce and tomato. The flavors were pretty awesome, only the fact that the beef was a little tough was disappointing, rest was great.

For dessert, I ordered the chocolate fondant which comes with a scoop of vanilla icecream. The classic combination of hot chocolate fondant and chilled vanilla icecream is always a hit and you may never go wrong with this one!

I would recommend you visit their kite beach branch, somehow I prefer the food truck over the restaurant.

Relish the moment at This is hot dog

Let me paint a picture for you, you are soaking the sun by Kite beach in your swimwear and your kids are playing in the sand and your eyeing that hot dog stand but aren’t sure whether to approach it or not because of the usual hot dog facts.

This is hot dog serves 100 percent halal and natural ingredients including the sausages that are made from premium grade meat with no artificial preservatives. In fact their bread is also freshly made which is why your order takes a little while to be made. You will be glad to know that these guys have won an excellent rate for hygiene which is rare in fast food chains. Also, their ovens have a constant oil filtration system so that your food absorbs minimal oil. How awesome is that?

Their hot dogs are a game changer in terms of quality, quantity and flavors. They have a wide variety of options to chose from. I would suggest you go for the hot dog box (Aed 75) where you get to choose 6 mini hot dogs (They are pretty filling). I opted for masala hot dog, mexican, eggy dog, cheese overload, rose pepper, smokey bandit and Italian. Also, I chose chicken for all so couldn’t differentiate among all the flavors that much. I found them more or less the same. But mexican and eggy dog stood out for me, the guacamole in mexican and scrambled egg on top of eggy dog were my favorites.

I had their poutine fries which were amazing, they had mozzarella cheese and chives and rose pepper. Although, I’m not really a fan of rose peppers. The fries were amazing.

I had their corn dog as well which was super soft coated and there was no oil on my finger tips when I finished eating it. Loved the honey mustard dip with it.

For dessert, I tried their choco dog. I will be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting much from it, the picture made me think that it will be a plain chocolate dessert but hey! it knocked my socks off by the chilled banana in between and the crunchy MnMs with super thick chocolate layers. Sigh! It was the best.

Let your heart skip a beat at The Blacktap

This place needs no introduction, its widely famous and most people have it on their buck-eat lists already. I, on the other hand had been longing to visit but I guess I waited for an occasion and so I decided to have my birthday dinner here. Needless to say that I was impressed by the service, interiors, food and the gigantic birthday shake. Let me start off by telling you that if you are visiting with babies or children then you should dine in their outside seating area because its actually a pub and when I was there, 20 people were celebrating birthday and there was tobacco smoke everywhere so I didn’t feel comfortable sitting inside with my toddler.

The restaurant has a dark rustic ambiance as you will see in pictures below:

Burger-iffic!

I admit that I was primarily there for the oh-so-famous shakes but hey! It was my birthday so I ordered in their burgers as well. I was warned before hand that their portion sizes are just too large so I won’t be able to finish both items. Little does everyone know that my appetite is a monster itself.
Their burgers were absolutely smashing! I took the first bite out of my mexican chicken burger and it was like the entire world paused and I was no longer a part of this world. The burger was generously stacked with cheese, onion and tomatoes. Ok! enough of the description, just see the picture below:

The chicken patty itself was so flavorsome and juicy that it added to the taste of the entire burger. I chose sweet potato fries for the sides (not because they are healthy). Infact, while we are discussing this right now. Let me clear this confusion, sweet potato fries are actually higher in calories as compared to normal potato fries. People consider it to be healthy because it keeps you fuller for longer.

This was their special burger that needs a long time to be described because its just worth it. Oh my God! it was the mother of all burgers, the wagyu beef patty was out of this world. Garnished with arugula leaves shuffled in vinaigrette played an integral part in the glory of this beauty.

Birthday Shake

They have a wide variety of freak shakes and i think they are nailing all of those but I wanted to order the Cake shake to respect the occasion. The shake was topped with an enormous slice of birthday cake with million confetti and whipped cream with cherry on top. It was so beautiful and the shake had icecream in it blended with the vanilla frosting to just sweep my feet off the floor.
