Best chaaps in Dubai- Sadak Chaap

Sadak chaap is a small newly opened place in Karama  (food street of Dubai). Their menu is simple and full of some beautiful flavors merged together to give you a fulfilling appetite. For readers, who don’t know what a chaap is, its actually small pieces of soya that are marinated in different spices and baked. Soya chaap contains more protein than eggs, meat, fish or milk. It is the best source of protein for vegan foodies who also wish to delve into an arena of flavors.

Their menu has such catchy items like “aam aadmi ki drink” and chaaps belonging to different states from Delhi to Italy. They’ve got it all!

IMG_3741

Welcome Drink:

I started off with “Sadak Chaas” that tastes exactly like a mint and chilli chutney but even more intense. Don’t gulp it down like a glass of lassi or you will choke because it has some serious kick of spices. It’s meant to be enjoyed in small sips.

IMG_3743
Sadak chaas

Chaap platter:

The chaap platter had chaaps from different states. There were delhi chaap, gujrati chaap, rajasthani chaap, haryanvi chaap, lahori chaap and I tell you that every single one of these tasted different. (in a good way)

IMG_3747

I know you must be curious about the Italian chaap so let’s discuss this first, it was loaded with creamy cheese and had subtle spiciness to it.  The Delhi chaap was similar, only creamy and no cheese.
My favorite chaap was Rajasthani because there were visible chili flakes on it.

IMG_3762
Rajashthani chaap

Chaap curry was absolutely spot on! tasted so much like butter chicken (even better). The whole wheat paratha that came with it was so soft and tasty. Both paired amazingly well together.

IMG_3761
The chaap in curry was velvety soft and melts in the mouth. Its amazing how their chefs manage to give so many flavors to one item.

IMG_3753

Also, tried the delhi chaap roll. They actually let you customize your own roll but I was quite happy with their selection of delhi chaap roll in the soft paratha. It was so creamy from the inside. And the mint chutney was its best match.

IMG_3764

Jaggery tea:

The jaggery tea was beautiful in terms of flavor and sweet element. Loved it. And guess what? It’s only priced at 3 aed.

IMG_3768

Thank you for your hospitality Team Sadak chaap. I applaud your creativity in terms of menu and flavor of the dishes served. Many thanks.

Best potato in town- Potato Hut

IMG_3702

I happen to visit the Dubai marina branch of Potato Hut and indulged in some serious potato love that deserves a big round of applause for flavor, creativity, freshness and quality. Its a small place with limited seating but I would recommend you get food from here and enjoy sitting at the Marina beach that’s just some steps away from here.

IMG_3707

I ordered the butter chicken baked potato with loads of hot sauce, mayonnaise and bbq sauce. I added capsicum and olives as the veggie toppings. The baked potato tasted amazing. It was a perfect blend of creaminess (as I also added mozzarella) the chunky butter chicken paired so well with it.

IMG_3714
Baked potato with butter chicken

Then, I ordered the Sweet potato Indian style which took me back to my childhood in Karachi, Pakistan where in markets, street hawkers used to sell baked sweet potato and it tasted just like that. It was topped with salt, pepper and lemon wedges. Even if you’re not a sweet potato person, I would recommend you try this.

IMG_3715
Sweet potato (Indian)

I also tried their bbq chicken sandwich and the highlight here was the potato bread, that was so beautiful. You gotta taste it to believe me. The filling was super creamy with mushrooms and chicken.

IMG_3733

They also have some amazing selection of salads and fresh juices along with different varieties of coffee. I tried their beetroot and orange juices and loved both.

I was hosted by Francis and Yuvette, both were lovely people who took care of me so well. If you’re having major potato cravings; my highest recommendations would be for this place.

Exploring Grano coffee house vibes

IMG_3620

Grano coffee is right outside rigga metro station and they have raised the dessert game to another level by serving warm crepes, waffles and pancakes along with some freshly brewed coffee, latte, cappuccino, espresso and americano.

IMG_3627

You’ll notice people working on their laptops while sipping on their shakes and fresh coffee. The coffee house has some cozy vibes with comfortable couch to spend some quality time at.

IMG_3618

I tried their nutella crepe which was beautifully wrapped in luscious nutella and the crepe itself was velvety soft. There were crushed lotus biscuits inside the crepe that elevated my happiness. Then I got my hands on the chocolate mini pancakes that were utterly delicious and I would recommend these to people who don’t want to have too much chocolate.

IMG_3632

Next, came the chocolate mini waffles that were little blocks of heaven. They were rich and creamy and the moment you bite into one, the chocolate burst is unbelievable.

IMG_3602

Sushi crepe was awesome! there were fresh strawberries lined across the crepe and the entire dessert turned out fantastic.

Their pistachio shake was the real deal! I would definitely recommend you order that.

IMG_3607

Thank you for having us grano coffee. Loved the cozy vibes. A definite recommendation!

Netflix and chill with Debonairs Pizza

I think you all are going to agree with the fact that Netflix and chill go very well with pizzas. Last weekend, I ordered debonair’s pizza and binge watched “House of cards”.
IMG_3583
I went to their website and the 99 Aed/. deal got me shook. It was three large pizzas for 99 only. So I went for it and ordered a spicy chicken pizza (double stack), Hawaiian chicken pizza and chicken mushroom pizza. I found the online ordering system a bit difficult as from the moment you choose the pizza flavor, all the sub-categories that show up are confusing. For example, when I chose spicy chicken pizza (29 aed) were already added to my cart and then I was asked to choose toppings where the options were cheese, veg toppings, non veg toppings and sauces. Now, for a moment I thought why would I have to add cheese separately, isn’t that what pizza usually comes with? Then I figured out, it must be extra. I suggest the management to add the word extra to the options so it becomes clear.

I added only one instruction with the order that said “please bring the order on time and it should be hot” and they lived it up to it. The pizza was actually 2 minutes earlier than the given time frame.

IMG_3589
spicy chicken pizza

The spicy chicken pizza was really good, love the fiery jalapenos with creamy cheese. But the bread was really hard and chewy.

IMG_3590
Hawaiian pizza

Loved this one, the pineapples on top were perfectly caramelized but the dough was still hard.

IMG_3588
chicken and mushroom pizza

This was super delicious, especially if you have someone in friends/family who doesn’t like spicy food. It was subtle and tasty. he mushrooms were grilled well but the dough was same hard and chewy.

Overall, I love the variety of flavors to choose from but the dough was pretty troublesome. Thank you for delivering us delicious pizzas Team Debonairs.

Top 5 Best Shawarma spots in Dubai

Dubai is the hub of some of the best shawarmas mainly because the origin of shawarma is rooted in Middle East. Although the invention of this great goodness of a roll, belongs to Turkey, Arabic world accepted it generously and it’s a signature food item to indulge in while in Middle East. It’s a wrap with turkey, veal, chicken, beef, lamb or even a combination of different meats. We love it because its convenient, quick, healthy, satisfying and the variety is endless. Here, I am listing my favorite shawarma spots in Dubai:

1.Al-Safadi:

Straight out of the rotating cone of meat into your shawarma comes juicy thick shaves of meat along with a mildly flavored mayo sauce and a few jalapenos to tickle your taste buds. Al-safadi in Dubai is very famous for their expertise in Lebanese cuisine and is always crowded with people dining in and others waiting in queue to be seated.

2.Todays Restaurant:

This one is a hidden Dubai shawarma gold spot. Located in Al-Nahda 2, this small place serves amazing shawarma wraps that are drool-worthy. I tried their chicken shawarma (non-spicy) and it I have a vivid memory of those creamy sauces and the double khubuz wrapped around hot grilled chicken shavings.

3.Laffah Restaurant:

Toasted to perfection should be their slogan. Although famous for their non-conventional (uber delish) potato chips; they serve one of the best chicken shawarmas in town. Roll up your sleeves and dive into the crispy, juicy tahina along with their scrumptious garlic sauce dripping session of deliciousness which you have to earn after a long waiting for parking and don’t forget the traffic around this place but hey! Good food doesn’t come easy eh?!  P.s They have also opened up in Abu Hail.

4.Shiraz Nights:

A warm and nice little place located in Baniyas square; serves one of the best shawarmas. Their bread is what separates regular shawarmas from the one you get here; meat shavings are packed with bags of flavors and the pickled veggies on the side just add to the entire equation. Parking issues alert!

5.Al-Ijaza Cafeteria:

If you’re looking for a shawarma that fits right in the category of comfort food in UAE, then this is your place my foodie friends. Located near Mercato Mall, Jumeirah; this place serves awesome shawarmas. A quick advice, visit only after sunset hours because they are barely serving anything during the daytime.

Dinner Buffet at Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is a much famous restaurant in the Palm Atlantis. I had been introduced to this place through the entertainer app 2018. So, I decided to give it a go on a birthday and while I made reservations through a phone call, their team was extremely co-operative and kind. They promised me a birthday cake on the house and helped me understand the dress code as well.

IMG-8313

The moment you enter Palm Atlantis, that feeling of grandness and larger than life is on your mind. Loved their Christmas decor, cleanliness, system management and security. I slowly walked to the restaurant because I was wearing high heels that day. We were frequently asked to disclose any allergies so the staff may assist us in choosing the food options. We were seated at quite the far end from the buffet, and happily walked every time we wanted to explore the menu.IMG-8362

Selection of salad, lettuce and vegetables:

They have wide variety of fresh salad including boiled eggs, butter lettuce, iceberg lettuce, sweet corn. cucumber, beans, broccoli and many more ready made ones like Tuna salad, spicy beef salad, ceaser salad, greek salad, chicken and waldorf salad, quinoa and roasted pumpkin salad. The best part was the several salad dressings you can pick from.

IMG-8324

Selection of Sushi Rolls:

They’ve got Salmon, crab, unagi, nigri with tuna, you name it! also the various condiments such as wasabi, soya sauce, pickle ginger.

IMG-8323

 Nachos station:

This one was a bit disappointing for me as there were no tacos but hey! the nachos were crispy and fresh, there were various salsa options to go with it like tomato salsa, corn and black bean salsa, guacamole, spring onion salsa and even carrot and egg plant salsa.

Cheese Board:

The cheese board was aesthetically pleasing with brie, gorgonzola, gouda, emental, edam, fontina and many more to enjoy with mixed nuts, dry fruits, fresh grapes, peach, water crackers, crostini and even figs and plum chutneys. Now that’s some variety.

Italian dishes:

I think its fair to tell you that this is the main area where I was roaming around mainly due to the fresh exotic pasta dishes including cochiggli pasta with meat sauce and meat lasagne. They also had carbonara, balongnese, alfredo, pesto and arrabiata on made to order. But my heart was really set on their pizza corner as it had four cheese pizza, margarita and the cheese bianca pizza. *Drooling while I write this*

Soup of the day:

I didn’t try any of the soups that day but they looked pretty amazing. There was lentil soup, cream potato and leek and cream of mushroom soups that day.

Rotisserie:

Atlantis beef and roasted chicken were the most loved items as there was a high influx of people on that table. I would really like to praise the pepper sauce here that was kept as a condiment. It paired so well with the chicken.

Main course:

The most amazing thing about this buffet was the Tandoor and Indian curry station as it had so much variety that your’e going to read this twice. (or maybe thrice?) Ok, I’ll name the dishes for you and then you be the judge ok? let’s do this:

For the vegetarians there were: Zeera pulao, daal tadka, beans sabzi, chana masala, aaloo shimla, dahi kadi, paneer makkini, tandoori potato and tindli masala, aaloo tikki and vegetable pakora too.

While for the non-vegeterians: Fish tikka, chicken tandoori, mutton rohan josh and chicken goan curry. Then there were various Indian breads and chutneys made from the freshest ingredients.

Dim Sums:

The dim sum station was lit with chicken bun, prawn sew mai, lo makai, hakau prawn dim sum, vegetable dumpling, fish dumpling and mushroom dumpling.

IMG-8291

Arabic station:

I can not explain how delicious were there mix grilled items especially the lamb kebabs. They were juicy and cooked to perfection. The cheese rolls and lamb kibbeh were amazing too.

Sweet endings:

Loved their exotic selection of pastry display, chocolate fountain, date chocolate tower, orange rice pudding, praline eclair, oreo cheese cake, pineapple and coconut tart, vanilla eggless cake and fried cinnamon sticks.

I would like to suggest the management to add mini cocktail shots to one of the stations, I know there was a rhubarb drink but I didn’t like it that much. Also. I missed crispy fried prawns.

5th Anniversary of Ghee Rice in Dubai

I am fortunate to be a part of Ghee Rice celebrations on their 5th Anniversary last night, where I tasted some brilliant dishes and it was a brand new experience for me as I have never tried Keralite cuisine before.

Ghee rice started from a passion to enjoy good food in a surreal ambiance in Abu dhabi and now they have officially opened their doors to Dubai. During last night’s event I was familiarized with their latest fusion dishes through interactive and experiential tasting sessions. As someone who has never been to India, I always wondered how their cuisine must taste like especially Keralite cuisine. I was afraid that their food would lack flavors and I was just proved wrong by every single dish that I tasted last night.

Amuse Bouche:

IMG_3556
Chicken Kunafe and Le chattipatil

Loved the chicken kunafe and its simplicity, the crispy coating protected lightly spiced chicken mince that just melted in mouth.

IMG_3557

Salad Tasting Platter:

If this is how salads are done, I won’t mind living on these. The chefs nailed every salad on the plate. There was whole wheat, muttabel, quinoa and  fattoush. I can’t pick one because all of them were equally good.

IMG-8098

Appetizers Tasting Platter:

The appetizers were absolutely spot on in terms of flavor, texture, presentation and combination. There was Inji puli prawn thats actually prawn cooked and dunked in thick tamarind chutney, curry leaves paneer, Mumbai keema, black diamond and Irani tikka. I vividly remember people went in awe of inji puli prawns the moment everyone tasted them.

IMG-8102

Main Courses:

  1. We began with the beautiful Rajasthani chicken lalmaas that was perfectly balanced with spices and the chicken was tender with subtle hints of orange color to it.
IMG-8115
Rajasthani chicken lalmaas

2. Keralian Fish mango curry:

This curry was densely yellow and tasted like whisper of a dream, the composition of spices in it remain unknown to me as I was unable to guess those but every element in this dish was lovely. I paired it with the naan paratha to enjoy it fully.

3. Malabar Erachichore:

The servers untied a giant bundle of banana leaves to unveil this dish and the entire room was filled with aromatic rice. This was a comforting rice dish that tasted divine.

4. Le Cordon Bleu:

IMG-8120
Le Cordon Bleu

This is a famous chicken dish where you stuff a chicken cutlet with spinach and creame cheese and then fold it and cover it in egg and bread crumbs and voila! loved it here. Especially because it was a huge shift from classic menu here.

5. Penne Alfredo Pasta:

IMG-8112
Penne Alfredo Pasta

Speaking of a shift from the classic menu, there was penne alfredo pasta on the table too. And yes, it was beautiful. The Beschamel sauce was cooked to perfection with wilted mushrooms.

6. Australian Lamb shank dum pukht Biryani:

IMG-8119
Australian lamb shank dum pukht biryani

This was the main course that stood out like a champion for me because it was absolutely perfect and packed with bags of flavors, the lamb was falling apart on one touch and the rice were beautiful, each grain was separate.

Desserts:

IMG_3571

For desserts, they served each one of us a dedicated platter with some amazing sweet dishes. It comprised of a gulab jamun, pistachio cheese cake, cheese kunafe, elaneer pudding, fruit creame and blueberry mousse. My favorite were the elaneer pudding and kunafe. Simply nailed the desserts!

Thank you once again for letting me be a part of your festive night Ghee Rice Restaurant, It was a pleasure tasting the new fusion menu.

And you eat like at home with Crumby

IMG_3469

Crumby is an authentic Italian restaurant that serves you meals that are hearty and make you feel like home. The warmth and freshness in each dish resonates with one’s heart so beautifully that it is impossible to be dissatisfied with your dining experience here.

IMG_3473

The ambiance is simple. elegant and neat. Even the choice of music is vintage and classy.

IMG_3481
Bruschetta

We started off our amazing culinary journey with fresh Bruschetta that was exceptionally good simply because the tomatoes were not over grilled. Usually I feel chefs cook/bake the tomatoes so much that when you bite into the bruschetta, it looses that juicy and fresh touch.

IMG_3518
Pumpkin soup

It was their soup of the day and I had runny nose so our server “Diana” recommended me this soup and she assured me that it will be amazing. I usually don’t go for soups especially pumpkin ones but when I had the first spoonful of this soup, my pupils dilated with excitement. It was creamy and warm and it came with a bowl of parmesan cheese and croutons to add as per your liking. I went all in and tossed the croutons and cheese and waited for a minute to dig in so that the croutons become pillow-y soft. The soup tasted exactly like a classic beschamel sauce.

IMG_3488
chicken panzerotti

The chicken panzerotti was fluffy and light as air so much so that you won’t believe its deep fried. All credit goes to the dough that was kneaded to perfection. The chicken and cheese filling inside was pretty generous and flavorsome. Don’t believe me? Watch out for this cheese pull below:

IMG_3493

Speaking of perfect dough, their pepperoni pizza was work of art.

IMG_3512
Pepperoni pizza with cherry tomatoes

Diana explains us the six steps which are needed to make this beautiful pizza. First the chef kneads dough several times and then rolls it out on the baking dish and slathers on freshly prepared pizza sauce comprised of ripe tomatoes. He then bakes it for some time and when the bread rises, only then the cheese and pepperoni is added and the cherry tomatoes go on last. wow!

IMG_3525
Spinach and ricotta ravioli

If you don’t know the amount of time and energy that goes into making a perfect ravioli, you may never appreciate it the way it deserves to be appreciated. This was a spinach and ricotta ravioli dunked in tomato sauce with Italian herbs. The combination of spinach and ricotta is match made in heaven but it was executed so well that this dish stands out.

IMG_3526

Crumby Dubai has won this title for an eminent reason:

IMG_3538
Tiramisu

Their Tiramisu is made of mascrapone cheese made from scratch, yep! you read it right and that enhances its flavor up to 10 times as compared to an ordinary Tiramisu.

IMG_3543

The layers of divine goodness blend in beautifully to create this dessert. I am smitten by the hearty meals I devoured here at Crumby, this is the kind of food that speaks to your heart and soul on so many levels.

Thank you once again for a wonderful dining experience Crumby Dubai.

Celebrate Cheat day at Superchix

IMG_3413

Superchix is the ultimate destination to indulge in delicious burgers, sinful shakes, scrumptious fries and decadent custards. The ambiance is colorful, casual and positive. It was a full house when I walked in so I grabbed the only table available and read the menu thrice before placing my order because I was in a state of conflict regarding the luscious sauces in the burgers and all the flavors on the menu especially their spicy menu that was the highlight of my day.

I just want to start off by telling you all that their staff was super friendly and efficient. Their positive vibes were the reason for this warm smile on the faces.

IMG_3415IMG_3412

So I started off with their pistachio milk shake that was lit! I swear I haven’t tried a milk shake that was this tasty before. It was creamy and delicious. I also ordered a lemonade with it and that was perfect as well.

IMG_3419
Pistachio milk shake and Lemonade

After placing our order, we got chic packs of popcorn to munch on while we wait for the burgers.

IMG_3417

We instantly popped these out and gobbled them up until the order arrived. We were so surprised to see the burgers because usually the burgers that we see on the menu or in the pictures but these were huge and the sauces were just dripping as we ate them. These were truly the best burgers especially the hot damn sandwich and double hot sandwich.

IMG_3420
Double hot sandwich

IMG_3421

We also ordered chicken tenders (fried) and there were so many sauces to choose from but we ended up with the spicy buffalo and honey mustard sauce that paired really well with them. The fried tenders were absolutely tasty, we were constantly dipping them in the sauces and finished them in a matter of minutes.

IMG_3441
Texas loaded fries

If these fries don’t make you drool then I don’t what will. These were spot on in terms of toppings, flavor, creaminess and crisp factor. We enjoyed every bit of these.

I also admired the barbecue cheese burger because it had a hint of sweet flavor to it along with the freshly grated cheddar that just turned out so beautiful.

IMG_3447
Red velvet custard
IMG_3452
Reese’s peanut butter custard

Do not leave superchix without getting these luxurious desserts, they are the showstoppers (quite literally!) I am still swooning over the red velvet custard as it comes with a mini red velvet cake on top, super cute to swap your birthday cake with this year, eh?!

Thank you so much for having us over Team Superchix. You guys are the best!

Fusion menu launch at My Govindas

Adapting to the latest culinary trends and innovations, My govindas promises to take their guests on a culinary journey based on sattvic food but fails miserably in terms of flavors and combination of dishes. Their motto is healthy and holistic food that pleases the body, mind and soul but all this process begins when you take that first bite of food and if your taste buds don’t accept it, how will it ever reach the “body, mind and soul”? You may disagree with me but the only way to evaluate that is to try their menu yourself.

The service was pretty amazing provided that it was a full house including the food bloggers and other customers. The staff were on their toes, rushing in and out of the kitchen to serve the guests and it was so evident that they were flustered.

Beginnings:

We were served a welcome pani puri shot that tasted pretty nice. Then came the lemon ginger drink that was not as strong as I thought it would be but it wasn’t that bad.

IMG_3375

Smoked angara paneer tikka:

The smoked angara paneer tikka came with a bang. It was smoking hot and tasted pretty nice. The charred capsicum was really adding to the flavor in general and the dish was ordered again.

IMG_3382
smoked angara paneer tikka

Spicy Thai cigars:

These were hands down the best item on their menu. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we thoroughly enjoyed these cigars, they were loaded with creamy cheese filling and tiny bits of capsicum. We remember ordering it frequently.

IMG_3390
Spicy Thai Cigars

Kidney bean kebabs:

I did not find these kebabs amusing at all since they were dry and bland. I could only taste cumin in it and rest was just blurred. I think it would be better if they add some more spices in it. I paired it with some pickle that was on the table and they became better afterwards.

IMG_3394
Kidney bean kebabs

Fondue Sizzler:

The fondue sizzler was an interesting concept and I liked it! It was basically panner with vegetables on a sizzler plate that came along with cheese and another dip (that wasn’t very pleasing) So I dipped paneer in cheese and it tasted good. I loved the grilled vegetables on that sizzler plate.

IMG_3400
Fondue sizzler
IMG_3405

Avocado naan toast:

So there was a basket with naan chopped into tiny squares and a buttery tomato sauce to have it with. Also fresh guacamole, tomato and green chili salsa and plain yogurt accompanied this dish. I felt the naan was a little dry and could use some clarified butter. The portion size was too small.

IMG_3398

I would like to thank Team MyGovinda’s for their enormous love and this wonderful opportunity for food bloggers to eat under one roof and understand their concept behind the new fusion-contemporary menu.

Your caffeine fix done right at Kava & Chai

img_3246.jpg

Kava and chai is cafe that specializes in tea/coffee variations that are amusingly good. The cafe is located in center of Al-seef where the menu makes perfect sense. Especially when the temperature drops and winters are coming around, it is the best idea to visit Kava and chai and indulge in some serious tea/coffee time along with scrumptious salads or desserts. They even have wide variety of smoothies, detox blends and lemonades, including some rare combinations I’m sure you have never heard before.

IMG_3242

I absolutely love the cozy interiors where you can just sit, relax and unwind or catch up with a long gone friend or even schedule a meeting with co-worker. It’s always going to be a good idea.

Salad Options:

These guys have an amazing choice of salads to choose from but I wasn’t really happy with a few things about both of my salads. I chose date and spinach salad along with a classic chicken ceaser’s salad. While the spinach and dates salad was pretty nice, the baby spinach leaves were not chopped that caused difficulty while eating. Whereas, the chicken ceaser salad was really bland, the dressing had no flavors either and the chicken was plain boiled.

IMG_3323
Spinach & Date salad
IMG_3316
Chicken caeser salad

Sandwiches:

I chose spicy sojuk sandwich and a chicken & mozzarella sandwich. The spicy sojuk sandwich was absolutely spot on! beef mince was cooked in tomato sauce with some really subtle spices that tasted so nice in the sandwich. However the chicken mozzarella sandwich wasn’t really good because the chicken inside it was exactly the same as the one in the salad.

IMG_3301
Soicy sojuk sandwich and chicken mozzarella sandwich

Caffiene fix:

I opted for their aromatic cappuccino and Kava & Chai latte, both were perfectly balanced cups of happiness. The cappuccino was pure, strong and luscious while the chai latte was a winner. It had a slight touch of cinnamon that worked its way to my heart.

IMG_3280

They serve their hot beverages with some freshly baked buttery cookies that puts a giant smile on my face anyday.

Detox blend:

My heart was set on the thyme lemonade but I ordered the passion fruit ginger blend instead. And I was so happy with my drink as it was beautifully composed with fresh ingredients. I was afraid that it will be too sour but it was pretty nice.

Desserts:

IMG_3256

I tried their red velvet cake and I was so impressed with it. I have never had a red velvet cake that is covered in thick chocolate before, it tasted so nice together and I was totally fighting over the oreo on top with my plus one 🙂

Thank you for having us Kava & Chai, your service was commendable since it was full house when we were there. I look forward to visit you soon.

Al Mawal Deck Lunch at GhayaGrand Hotel

IMG_3163

It is no secret that everyone enjoys deck lunch especially when the temperature drops in Dubai, sipping on some chilled lemonade while relaxing solo or having a romantic date or a celebration with friends. The idea of nibbling food under clear skies gets everyone excited and so with such excitement I walked into GhayaGrand (Al Mawal deck) for lunch where I was greeted with such warm smiles and friendly staff.

I was given tour of the deck lunch stations and then we seated comfortably at a round table. My baby was greeted with love too and the staff brought a nice clean high chair for him.

IMG_3153IMG_3155

As I started wandering my way through all the stations, I couldn’t help but go after the Mexican corner where there were nachos, taco shells and several condiments to go with it. So I made myself a giant taco with chicken marinara, slaw, liquid cheese, beef with peppers and guacamole stuffed in it. I quickly munched into it and realize that the taco shells were brittle and did not taste well. Then I looked at the Mexican corner and observed how the taco shells were out in  the open (uncovered) which was not right. Taco shells have some fat in them when they are fried, by keeping them out in exposure to oxygen; that fat can go rancid. Rancidity affects smell and taste but it isn’t unhealthy.

IMG_3148IMG_3150

Next, I grabbed some aqua lemonade from lemonade corner that was so cheerful and made me really happy. I tried different flavors and liked them all. There was aqua lemonade, mango and strawberry.

Then I made my way to the pasta section where there was so much variety that I was really amused. I took one portion of each kind of pasta and did not like any because of the texture. I think the windy weather made it cold quickly and it was so hard to chew into it, it felt rubbery and not good at all.

IMG_3207

20181110_142948

Then, I went to the burger station with high hopes where they grilled a piece of chicken on my request in front of me for the burger. The chicken was overcooked and did not taste well in the burger.

IMG_3158

There was a shawarma station right beside the burger one so I opted for it and thankfully it was great. I really liked it!

IMG_3151

By now, I was a little disappointed and “a lot” hungry so I made my way to the salad corner and there were several boxes lined up with different salads and numerous dressings to go with it. I got a macaroni salad and added yogurt dressing to it. It was average and not that bad.

IMG_3175

I also had some salty rice that were really good along with the chicken skewers that I can’t complain about because they were very nice.

IMG_3189

I would suggest the management to either use a shed of some sort for food so that it doesn’t get cold (from the time we get it on the plate and walk to our seating areas). Secondly, the temperature of food was originally not very hot so that added to the trouble. I agree that it was a windy day and there was sand storm everywhere but the food was a major let down. There were no flavors/spices in the sauces, meals. The bread station was so deserted that no one was even batting an eye over there.

Desserts:

The dessert section was my favorite as every item over there was an absolute hit. Loved the profiterole and milk cake. I tried one of everything.

I would like to thank GhayaGrand Hotel for their wonderful hospitality and amazing service. Their staff was on the toes to help and offer us support throughout the time I dined in there.
